A History of Birthdays

Every year I try my best to make Zenon's birthday extra special. I try to always have a theme for his birthday and have him wear an attire that matches it.

His first birthday was pirate themed, so I had a pirate costumes especially made for him. His second birthday was safari themed, so I got him an outfit to match. His 3rd birthday was a little bit different, the theme being "All of Zenon's Favorite Things". He simply wore new clothes for this birthday but I had made him a banner that I labored and toiled over for almost a week!

Cap'n Zenon!
Safari look achieved by having him wear a brown polo shirt and brown shorts. I got him a Go Diego! Go! necktie that he refused to wear that day and he had on camo crocks also from the cartoon.

I made the banner in free hand. It had all his favorite things at that time -- Thomas the train, Handy Manny, Transformers, Mickey Mouse, Lightning McQueen, dinosaurs, balloons, etc.

His fourth birthday was Transformers themed. Albeit having celebrated without me as I was in Basic Training at that time, I had sent a package with a Bumble bee costume for Zenon and random Transformers giveaways and decors that I got from the local Party City in San Antonio. Town pass came perfectly for me to be able to do that.

Zenon's 5th was Star Wars themed. I was unprepared for this one considering he had just arrived from the Philippines a couple of weeks before. I had also just moved into our apartment a couple of weeks before that with no furniture, not even a bed! So instead if spending on a fancy birthday, we simply had it at Chuck E Cheese's and I spoiled him with toys including a new Nintendo 3DS instead.

I bought the Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker cake toppers from Walmart and bought this Star Wars toys with mini characters in them to use as cupcake toppers. Since we didn't have anything at home, I had to buy a cupcake tower which has proven to be very nice and useful for when we have friends over, and even for Z's most recent 6th birthday.

So now we go to the most recent birthday. This time I was able to almost go all out for his birthday. I say almost because again I had a limited budget -- I had overspent on our 4th of July trip, which was so worth it!

Zenon's birthday was pokemon themed this time. It's so hard to get pokemon things now, almost everything has to be either made or bought online. It didn't help that we live in a very small town with limited resources, but, if there's a will, there's always a way!

Zenon wearing his Ash Ketchum costume which I had hand sewn!

Zenon's growing up so fast, it feels surreal that it's been 6 years since I was planning and prepping for his first birthday.

I love you so much Zenon! Happy 6th my love!
